Volunteers have been spreading joy by distributing sweet gifts to strangers, all in the name of a worthy cause.

The Business DisABILITY Awards team took to the streets of Toowoomba’s CBD on Monday, in a bid to promote the event.

Filling two wheelbarrows with more than 3000 Cherry Ripe chocolate bars, the group spent the morning distributing them to strangers and onlookers.

“I was gifted with thousands of Cherry Ripes by a very generous benefactor to help get the word out about the awards,” co-founder Kim Stokes said.

“But with all this news about Covid-19, lockdowns and restrictions, we also thought this was a great way to put a smile on people’s faces.”

Now the public are being encouraged to nominate someone making a difference in the disability sector, as entries close on August 27.

“We’d love to see more members of the community nominating people who champion the lives of people with disabilities,” Ms Stokes said.

“It could be a diverse and inclusive workplace, it could be someone who volunteers or it could be someone living with a disability who is a huge part of the community.”
