OUR SAY: WE are not used to hot humid weather such as the city is currently experiencing.
And it looks like the heat and humidity will be with us for a few more days at least.
There are pretty sensible rules for combating the heat and they include obvious ones such as keeping hydrated and staying out of the sun as much as possible.
But there is a group of residents who may need some extra help.
We need to keep an eye on seniors and help them weather the heat.
Older people may be at risk of serious illness from dehydration and heat stress.
There has been a call out for friends, family and neighbours to look out for the elderly.
They are among the most vulnerable when it comes to enduring heat waves.
If you live near an elderly person it would be greatly appreciated if you take a few minutes to drop in just to make sure they have their home well ventilated and they are wearing appropriate loose, light clothing, and drinking enough water.
It may help keep them out of the hospital emergency department.
