A young female guard has been violently sexually assaulted at the Adelaide Remand Centre and said she was asked to return to work the next day.

A young female guard has been subjected to a violent assault inside Adelaide’s Remand Centre.
The incident occurred in the early hours of May 5 this year, when the guard turned to secure an airlock door and the prisoner allegedly sexually assaulted her from behind.
7News reported that the victim claimed the prisoner used a makeshift knife hidden in his jumper to threaten her. He allegedly told her he would slit her throat if she told anyone.
He then allegedly said he would find a way to hurt her family if she pressed the duress alarm.
The woman claims that after reporting the incident, she was asked to return to work the next day.
An Adelaide Remand Centre spokesperson said “we take seriously any reported incident involving an alleged assault on one of our officers.”
“The matter has been formally referred to South Australia Police for investigation,” the spokesperson said.
“The wellbeing and safety of our staff remain our priority, and the officer involved is currently receiving the care and support they need.
“We are committed to maintaining a safe environment for everyone and do not tolerate this type of alleged behaviour.”
SAPOL said that police are aware of reports of a sexual assault at a correctional centre on Monday 5 May.
“Investigations into the incident are ongoing,” a spokesperson said.
