UK superstar Ed Sheeran spent less than 24 hours in Adelaide before reportedly jetting off to Melbourne

British superstar Ed Sheeran’s flying Adelaide visit was less than 24 hours – but he touched the lives of dozens of lucky young fans, and local hero Kellie Finlayson.

Local hero Kellie Finlayson has walked away from Ed Sheeran’s spectacular Adelaide Oval show with more than just memories – revealing the star personally gifted her his T-shirt.

Mrs Finlayson, who married Port Adelaide’s Jeremy Finlayson over the weekend, said meeting Sheeran was an “incredible wedding gift” but “wasn’t surprised” by the star’s generosity.

“Woke up unsure if I’m still a Finlayson or now a Sheeran,” Mrs Finlayson wrote on Instagram after her star meeting.

“(Ed Sheeran) took the time to have a cuddle pre show, changed his shirt with just three songs to go … only to have his good mate Travis run his original shirt up to us, insisting Ed wanted me to have it.”

“If anyone’s wondering what Ed Sheeran smells like after a performance, he kindly gifted me his sweaty shirt with perfect golden strands of hair all over it.

“Am I incredibly grateful? Absolutely! Am I surprised that he was generous enough to think of something like this? Not at all … what a gentle, humble man.”

Sheeran changed into an “always was, always will be” T-shirt designed by Clothing the Gaps for his closing three songs – which, in a twist of local fate, is the same design worn by Port Adelaide’s AFL and AFLW sides during last year’s Indigenous rounds.

The Brit’s outfit change also found a happy home – with lucky nine-year-old fan Rhea Huntley scoring the shirt after flying all the way from Streaky Bay to attend the gig.

Rhea created a sign that read ‘my first concert’, accompanied by drawings of the singer’s album covers, which caught Sheeran’s eye during the show.

“She was singing and dancing away near the front and I think he saw it then,” Rhea’s mother Samantha Huntley said.

But it wasn’t until the trio was trying to exit the venue that Ms Huntley spotted Sheeran’s manager running along the barricade.

“This is from Ed, he wanted you to have this,” the man said to Rhea – leaving the young fan “beside herself”

“She’s got a great show and tell item for school … it was a once in a lifetime experience,” Mrs Huntley said.

Mrs Finlayson was honoured with The Advertiser Foundation Inspiration Award at The Advertiser, Sunday Mail and SkyCity Woman of the Year Awards on Monday, for her courageous battle against bowel cancer.

Mr and Mrs Finlayson tied the knot in a surprise beach ceremony over the weekend, as she begins another round of crippling treatment.
