One of global music’s hottest names and a world-renowned comedian have been spotted dining at an acclaimed Adelaide institution – within 48 hours of each other.
Singer-songwriter Troye Sivan, who’s playing at The Drive tonight, popped into chef Duncan Welgemoed’s award-winning eatery, Africola, with his entourage on Monday night.
The Johannesburg-born pop artist posed for a photo with staff at the venue, which is known for its South African-style menu.
“Be still our beating hearts! We loved cooking for @troyesivan and crew, another Joburger making South Africans proud! You made our entire night!” the restaurant captioned a snap on its Instagram account.
Just two days earlier, South African-born funnyman and this year’s Grammy Awards host Trevor Noah caught up with countryman Welgemoed at the trendy eatery.
Welgemoed shared a photo of the pair on social media.
“Such a beautiful thing to reminisce about our childhoods in Northern Johannesburg during the 1990’s, even crazier that we grew up in the same suburb at the same time,” he said.
“Trevor Noah, you’re a legend and as a Joburger, I’m super proud of you.”
Noah, who hosted US chat program The Daily Show for seven years, played a gig at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Sunday.
Welgemoed is no stranger to cooking for A list stars.
Africola has played host to several visiting celebrities including tennis legend Novak Djokovic, who dined at the popular eatery twice at the end of 2022, US pop star Katy Perry in 2014, plus Bon Iver’s frontman Justin Vernon.
Last December, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was treated to a very special dinner by the award-winning chef at beloved Rundle St pub The Exeter, the day before the US group’s sold-out concert at Coopers Stadium.
Earlier this year, The Crown actress Olivia Colman was also spotted dining at the Adelaide restaurant.
Most recently, Phil Rosenthal – Everybody Loves Raymond co-creator and star of Netflix’s hit series Somebody Feed Phil – also enjoyed a meal at Africola while filming an episode of the travel food show.
