Southern Expressway traffic at a standstill after car breaks down

Commuters heading to the city experienced massive delays on the Southern Expressway on Friday morning, with traffic backed up for several kilometres.

Commuters heading to the city had to suffer a monster traffic jam on the Southern Expressway during Friday’s morning rush hour.

A car had broken down near the Panalatinga Rd ramp at O’Halloran Hill, and traffic was backed up for several kilometres while they waited for police to clear it away.

Motorists were advised to make a detour via Beach Rd.

One Advertiser reader commented on the story: “It was in the left park lane with a police car. It was actually the police car with lights flashing that was slowing everything down. As soon as we were past the police car the speed returned to normal. The police can attend but do they really need to have their lights flashing?”

Another said: “Good to see the helpful and considerate motorists have hopped out to help push the car over to the left out of harm’s way and to allow traffic to flow again. Oh wait. This is Adelaide in 2025. Can’t be thinking of others, can we?”
