Smoke warning for Adelaide’s north as two-storey home goes up in flames at Mawson Lakes

Firefighters arrived to find a large two-storey home in Adelaide’s north well alight, with the roof collapsed and flames threatening neighbouring properties.

Inferno consumes two-storey northern suburb home

A large northern suburbs home has been completely gutted after an early-morning fire ripped through the property, causing its roof to collapse.

Emergency service crews including two police officers and firefighters remained at the scene on Wednesday morning, as they continued to contain the blaze.

A small portion of the roof of the two-storey property – which had collapsed – was still billowing smoke. Fortunately, no one was home at the time.

The home’s exterior including windows and doors was also fully destroyed.

Firefighters responded to the fire on Greenleaf Crt, Mawson Lakes, just after 4am to find the two-storey home full alight.

Entry to the home was not possible due to damage to the structural integrity of the house.

Nine trucks – including a specialist aerial appliance – and a command car were sent to the scene, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the inferno and save neighbouring properties.

The MFS said the blaze took 60 minutes to contain and as of 6.30am, firefighters were still at the scene monitoring hotspots.

Fire cause investigators have gone to the scene to determine the cause.

The MFS issued a smoke alert for the local area, warning that smoke can affect health.

Symptoms of exposure include shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing, burning eyes, running nose, chest tightness, chest pain and dizziness or light-headedness.
