Adelaide’s biggest seller of electric scooters, Scooter Hut Adelaide, has abruptly closed down.
A Google page for the popular Marion shop, in Adelaide’s south, on Sunday posted an update confirming the permanent closure.
“We regret to inform you that Scooter Hut at this location is now permanently closed,” the post said.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your continued support.”
No reason was given for the sudden closure.
A worker packing up stock at the store on Wednesday said staff were told last week they would lose their jobs.
Electric Scooter Repairs Adelaide owner Jason Miller said the store had the biggest range of scooters in the state and its closure would leave a huge hole in the market.
“It’s just a shame,” he said. “It’s left some guys out of work, and hundreds if not thousands of people without somewhere to go and get their gear fixed. It was a little bit of a surprise.
“Scooter Hut’s always been the icon; it’s been around for a very long time.”
The chain, which brands itself as Australia’s largest electric scooter and pro scooter store, has remaining branches in Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia.
The Marion location was Scooter Hut’s only shop in South Australia.
It has previously closed stores at Canberra and Mount Gravatt in Queensland.
Scooter Hut has been contacted for comment.
