Adelaide has recorded its coldest morning of the year on Monday with the chilly weather expected to hang around this week.

Adelaide’s West Tce gauge recorded a minimum temperature of 3.1C at 7.26am – the lowest temperature since September last year.

At 7am today, the ‘feels like’ temperature was 1.8C, so it felt much colder than it actually was.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Jenny Horvat told FIVEAA the cold mornings would hang around this week.

“That is our coldest morning of the year … so yes, if you think you’re feeling a little bit cold, yes, it is cold,” she said.

“We had that cold front move through over the weekend, we did see a little bit of rainfall around, but it’s left us in this cold airstream, so with the high pressure system coming through now and those light winds and clear skies, a couple of chilly mornings are on the cards.

“We are expecting a couple more (cold mornings) as we head into the middle of the week, maybe not quite as cold as this (Monday) morning, but still be prepared for a chilly commute into work.”

Monday is set for a top of 17C for the city, with 16C along the coast and 14C at Mount Barker.

The cold snap is expected to hang around with the minimum temperature forecast for below 6C in Adelaide on Tuesday, with a maximum of 18C on Wednesday.

Ms Horvat said this week could see a few spots of rain but warned it would be “nothing of note”.

“Then it’s drying up as we head into Thursday and Friday, temperatures of around 19 degrees,” she said.

The mercury is tipped to reach 20C on Saturday before another cold front comes in late Saturday or Sunday, with the potential to see some showers as we head towards the end of the weekend.
