Adelaide shivered through its coldest morning of the year on Tuesday – and temperatures were even lower in SA’s rural regions.

The city’s West Tce station recorded a minium of 2.9C at 5.30am, the lowest temperature of the year so far, while Parafield dropped down to 0.5C.

However, it was even colder in the state’s Riverland with Renmark recording a teeth-chattering -1.6C at 6.30am.

Bureau of Meteorology’s David Crock told FIVEAA light fog and mist had been reported around the north where temperatures were below 1C.

“So there is a bit of frost on some of the windscreens about the northern suburbs, I’d suggest,” he said.

“So certainly a fresh one out there this morning … we’re right in the depths of winter now.”

Adelaide is set for a maximum of 15C on Tuesday with a slight chance of a shower about the Hills and southern suburbs but a near zero chance elsewhere, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Most of the state is set for a top in the mid teens.

The icy starts are tipped to stay around this week, with similar conditions forecast for the rest of the week, before showers develop on the weekend.
