A South Australian man is facing several charges after he was allegedly caught with drugs, knuckle dusters, and false identification documents while trying to board a plane at Adelaide Airport on Monday.
Luke Anderson Jack appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon where he made no application for bail and was remanded in custody.
The 39-year-old was arrested after Adelaide Airport staff allegedly identified illicit items in the man’s luggage during screening and alerted Australian Federal Police officers.
Jack was intending to board a domestic flight.
AFP officers searched his baggage and allegedly uncovered about 10g of a white powder, believed to be methamphetamine, as well as knuckle dusters, five mobile phones, $1300 in cash and numerous identification documents in other people’s names.
They also allegedly found two containers of clear liquid in one of Jack’s other bags.
Presumptive testing of this liquid identified the substance to be Butanediol.
Jack has been charged with one count of false identification information at constitutional airports; one count of possessing a prohibited weapon, one count of dealing in proceeds of crime; one count of trafficking a marketable quantity of a controlled drug; and one count of unlawful possession.
AFP Inspector Dan Finley said, “the diligence of airport staff and AFP officers enabled a quick response to the incident to ensure the safety of the travelling public and to stop these illicit and dangerous items from boarding an aircraft or entering the community,” he said.
Speaking generally, he said, “all drugs are dangerous and significantly impact the community with devastating consequences, which is why the AFP and its law enforcement partners are committed to stopping these criminal activities.”
Jack will next appear in court in February.
