Port Augusta Secondary School was plunged into lockdown on Wednesday after a student allegedly assaulted two staff members.

Several police cars swooped on the education facility, on Stirling Rd, at about 12pm after reports of a disturbance.

Police will allege a student kicked a door and assaulted two staff members. The staff were not injured.

A 15-year-old girl was detained and taken to the local hospital by ambulance where she will undergo a mental health assessment.

The school was locked down for a short time while the incident was managed by staff and police.

In a post to social media, one concerned parent said she would be picking her son up as soon as the lockdown ended.

“It’s only getting worse and it’s horrible when you don’t feel safe sending your 17-year-old son to school, let alone the younger ones,” she said.

“It’s getting beyond a joke as soon as they get out of this lock down my husband is going to get our son.”

Another woman said a girl had “gone crazy trying to hurt other kids”.

There have been no reports other students were involved.

The Port Augusta Secondary School, Education Department and education minister have been contacted for comment.

Last week, an Adelaide High School student was arrested after a “critical incident” that sent the school into an emergency lockdown.

Police were called to a disturbance at the school and later charged a 14-year-old student with property damage, citing multiple broken windows.
