A random traffic stop has led to the arrest of a Porsche driver over alleged drug offences in the southern suburbs on Christmas night.

Police said the man, who was driving a grey Porsche, was pulled over for a random driver test on Cross Rd at South Plympton on Wednesday, about 8pm.

The driver of the luxury car, a 41-year-old man from Kidman Park, submitted to a driver drug test where he allegedly provided a positive result for methamphetamine.

Following the test his car was searched, where police said they found about 35 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The man was issued a three-month immediate loss of licence and a 24-hour driver direction notice.

He was also arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled drug.

He has been granted police bail to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on 23 January.
