A female pedestrian remains in a critical condition in hospital after being struck by a car in a hit and run at Gawler South on Thursday evening.
Police and emergency services attended the Thirteenth St scene on Thursday evening, after a 52-year-old was struck by a car, which then allegedly fled the scene, just before 7pm.
Major crash investigators and Barossa detectives attended the site and investigations are continuing.
Thirteenth St closed to all traffic between Fourteenth St and Sixteenth St as police and emergency services attended to the pedestrian, but has since been reopened.
Gawler South resident Les told 9News he was first alerted to the incident when he heard the victim “breathing very loudly”.
“I could hear it from my house, so I said ‘better call the police’,” he said.
Locals who spoke to 9News also said the victim was often seen walking Gawler South streets.
CCTV footage captured shortly before the incident showed a woman narrowly avoiding getting struck by a car.
It is unclear if the woman pictured is the victim.
Police are calling for anyone with dashcam footage or information to come forward.
