Oliver and Isla have again reigned supreme as the most popular baby names in South Australia for boys and girls respectively.

An indicative list of the most popular baby names in South Australia has revealed Oliver and Isla have come out on top as the number one pick for boys and girls respectively.

Oliver continues to reign supreme for the tenth successive year with 168 Olivers born in the state last year.

Consumer and Business Affairs Minister, Andrea Michaels said the popularity of traditional names remained strong.

“Just like fashion, trends in baby names seem to come full circle, while the classics like Oliver continue to retain their popularity,” she said.

Baby names inspired by the Royal family such as Charlotte and Archie have also taken the state by storm with both making the top five.

“The growing prominence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may have contributed to the popularity of Archie, which had its first appearance in the top five in more than a decade,” said Ms Michaels.

Amelia, Willow and Grace also made the top five for girls with Noah, Henry and Leo rounding out the top five boys names for the year.

Trends in baby girls’ names have been consistent with other names like Matilda, Lily and Harper remaining popular in recent years.
