A new bulky goods outlet for Mount Barker will carry Officeworks as its major tenant, planning documents reveal.
The new store will create more than 20 new jobs and is set to open in late 2025.
Built by SA developers Emmett, the project includes three other bulky goods outlet stores on 1.1ha of former farming and grazing land next to the Prancing Pony brewhouse and restaurant in Totness, opposite Total Tools.
The Officeworks store will be a separate, 2000sq m outlet, with the other three connected stores ranging from 600sq m to 1000. They will open from 7am to 9am on weekdays and 8am to 6pm weekends.
The plans do not reveal the other three tenants and Emmett declined to comment.
The building will hit 7.8m, with entry points rising to 8.5m.
More than 100 carparks are included in the project, as well as a 10m Officeworks sign and landscaping – with a “carpark tree trench” – is included.
Trees would be planted along the wall beside the Prancing Pony, with plans showing a water retention basin is planned for the lowest point of the site.
The plan say modifications to Mount Barker Road, including widening of the pavement on the shoulder and a new turning lane, are proposed.
Retaining walls will be built after the site – which is on a hillside – is levelled for construction.
Kylie Brockett, Head of Property at Officeworks, said the company was looking forward to opening.
“We are excited to bring Officeworks to the Mount Barker community to help Australians work, learn, create and connect,” she said.
“We will employ more than twenty team members and look forward to opening our eleventh store in South Australia in late 2025.”
South Australian developers Emmett are also behind multiple retail, residential, commercial and industrial jobs across the state.
The plans are on public consultation until Monday, November 18.
