One of the world’s best pastry chefs is heading to Adelaide for a special event next month.

Michelin-starred American Will Goldfarb will share his avant-garde desserts at Norwood hotspot arkhé at a one-off, $450 a head dinner on November 21.

Now based in Bali, Goldfarb has a unique affinity with Adelaide, having started his career working with legendary SA chef Cheong Liew at the Grange Hilton in 2000.

“At the time, he was one of those magical chefs that you travelled around the world for,” said the native New Yorker, dubbed the Prince of Pastry.

“I can’t wait to be back to my first Aussie hometown, Adelaide.”

Goldfarb, 49, went on to make a name for himself with his own venue, restaurant and cocktail bar Room4Dessert, which he launched in New York before relocating to Ubud, Bali, in 2014.

His revolutionary sweets earned him the title of World’s Best Pastry Chef in 2021 and he was the focus of an episode of Netflix’s popular Chef’s Table series.

Now Goldfarb is coming to cook alongside arkhé founder Jake Kellie, and not surprisingly, his menu will feature four main desserts, each made famous at his critically acclaimed Indonesian restaurant.

This includes the Pandanbert, which combines pandan panna cotta, nutmeg confit, snake fruit and mung bean crumble, along with his signature Sugar Refinery dish, which Goldfarb describes as “a variation on a millefeuille”.

This includes soursop sorbet, palm sugar chantilly and mangosteen peel bitters with a Balinese meringue.

“(It will be) absolute, unadulterated magic,” he said.

Tickets for the arkhé & friends dinner are $450 each and include four savoury courses, four sweet courses and two petit fours, with drink pairings.
