Man charged after crashing car allegedly stolen from Davoren Park on Dukes Highway near Bordertown

A car allegedly nicked from Adelaide’s northern suburbs ended up crashing near the Victorian border – with a young man now facing court.

A young man has been arrested after allegedly crashing a stolen car near Bordertown early on Monday morning.

Police located and arrested the 23-year-old nearby after witnesses to the crash reported the driver had run from the scene.

Emergency services and police were called to Dukes Highway, about 5km east of Bordertown, just after 1.30am after reports the car had left the road and crashed into a barrier.

Police identified the crashed green Hyundai Excel as stolen on Sunday from Davoren Park in Adelaide’s north, about three-and-a-half-hours drive away.

The badly damaged car was seized by police.

The alleged driver was charged with driving unlicensed, driving in a reckless or dangerous manner, theft of motor vehicle, property damage and throwing a missile with intention to injure, annoy or frighten.

He was refused bail and faced Mount Gambier Magistrates Court, where his matter was adjourned to later in April.

An SA Police spokeswoman declined to comment on the thrown missile, saying the matter was before the court.
