Magnitude 3.3 earthquake shakes the Flinders Ranges

A small earthquake has been recorded in the Flinders Ranges, about 500km north of Adelaide.

South Australia’s Flinders Ranges have been hit by an earthquake on Thursday morning.

A magnitude 3.3 earthquake shook the popular tourism area, about 500km north of Adelaide, at about 10.20am according to Geoscience Australia.

It comes following a 3.6 magnitude quake near Pt Pirie, which could be felt up to 60km away last month.

Adelaide feels regular earthquakes and sits on several faults, including the Para Fault, running from Gawler, under the northern suburbs and under the CBD, and the Eden-Burnside Fault, which runs under the southern and eastern suburbs.There is also the Willunga fault line, which snakes its way from the southern Adelaide Hills, west of the Mt Bold Reservoir, down through Willunga and out to Sellicks Beach.
