How the internet reacted to Port’s preliminary final loss

Fans and foes of the Power were quick to share their thoughts on social media regarding yet another prelim final loss. Check out the good, the bad and the ugly.

Port Adelaide lovers and haters flocked to social media in the aftermath of the Power’s devastating preliminary final loss to the Swans.

Hawthorn fans have been waiting seven days to mock coach Ken Hinkley’s post-game antics last week, in which he taunted young Hawks star Jack Ginnivan by mimicking an aeroplane.

After Sydney ended Port Adelaide’s season, Hawthorn supporters let Hinkley have it with both barrels.

“You’re not flying Ken,” said one X user.

Another asked: “Where is Ken Hinkley flying this week?”

Supporters of the Power’s arch rival the Adelaide Crows enjoyed seeing the nail being put into Port’s coffin with an X user pointing out Hinkley’s distinct lack of success as a coach in finals – particularly in comparison to Ginnivan.

“Ken Hinkley the master coach. You can’t lose a grand final if your team doesn’t compete in them,” wrote one user on X.

Another added: “Ken Hinkley the raygun of finals #AFLFinals #aflswansport”

Port faithful expressed their frustrations at once again being “let down” by their team with many feeling a sense of deja vu after being in this position before.

“Port supporters. If you want Ken Hinkley to remain at the club, look up the meaning of Stockholm syndrome,” wrote one fan.

On Facebook, true believers criticised their fellow fan’s negativity and encouraged disappointed members to be proud of their team’s season “regardless”.

“Let’s not be the type of supporters who rubbish their club and turn on each other after a loss,” a Power fan wrote.

“Onto next year, thanks for some great games and memorable moments this season.”

7NEWS Adelaide’s presenter Rosanna Mangiarelli took to Instagram to say that her team were “outnumbered” and “outclassed” in the field and in the stands.

“Still love you @pafc,” Mangiarelli wrote.

Port Adelaide Ambassador and radio presenter Rebecca Morse posted a collection of snaps from throughout the night on her Instagram story.

“Season 2024 comes to an end but they can #NTUA,” Morse said.
