An elderly couple has been rescued from a car after they crashed into a fence in the eastern suburbs, just minutes away from a popular private school.

About 2.10pm Monday, emergency services were called to Liapis Court, Rostrevor, following reports a Ford Territory had rolled down a cul-de-sac and crashed through the back fence of a house on Yalpara Ave – becoming stuck on a retaining wall.

Sonia Mascolo, a nearby resident, told 7NEWS she was outside with her children when she heard the “amazingly loud crash” – rushing to the aid of the two people trapped inside.

“Honestly, I’m just glad they’re okay because that car could have so easily tumbled,” she said.

“First (we got) the man because his door was accessible so we got him out and he was okay. The lady, we just had to pull her out from the side as well.

“There was no blood anywhere but they were in shock. There was an angel looking after them I think.”

The incident occurred just a five-minute drive away from Rostrevor College after the couple were returning home from buying olive oil at the shops.

The vehicle was towed from the property.

Occupants of the home on Yalpara Ave were at home at the time but they were not injured.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
