It was a big day for South Australia’s newest celebrity, Ambrose Skrypek as he basked in the glory of winning the Kid Mullet Cup for 2025.
The celebration of the eight-year-old started early with Ambrose, his mum, Kimberley and dad, Michael waking up at 5am to prepare the winning mullet for its first television appearance.
On the journey from their Aldinga Beach home to Adelaide the family made an important pit stop to pick up Wednesday’s edition of The Advertiser with Ambrose excited to see his picture splashed across the front page.
“The guy in the service station was like ‘is that you on the front page’”, Mrs Skrypek said.
The coveted Kid Mullet Cup was never far from his side with Ambrose planning to take it along to school next week for “show and tell”.
During his feature on Sunrise, presenters Natalie Barr and Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington hit him with all the hard mullet-related questions.
After being asked if he was planning to keep the iconic hairdo, Ambrose shared his intention to grow his mullet for good.
“I want to cut it off and give it cancer for like a fundraiser,” the young champion said.
“Maybe we could do it on Sunrise and raise lots of money,” Barr responded.
“I’ve got the clippers ready,” Shirvo added after offering to fly Mrs Skrypek and Ambrose to Sydney.
While the proposition left Ambrose and his parents buzzing with excitement, there was no time to rest as they headed off to Grange Golf Club to partake in a media announcement with LIV Golf.
After donning a Ripper GC hat, Ambrose was the perfect ‘mini’ Cam Smith posing alongside a ‘mini’ Fisher and Tinkerbell the Range Goat.
The kids stood by as LIV Golf Adelaide unveiled their plans to transform the 6th hole into a Family Fairway.
The attraction will offer a kids’ DJ and other live entertainment, food trucks, mini gold and the RangeGoat GC Petting Zoo.
It is hoped the addition to the event will create a more family friendly environment with free entry on offer to kids under twelve.
Ambrose and his new band of friends were invited to tour the LIV Golf facilities while rubbing shoulders with Premier Peter Malinauskas.
The pair shared a fist bump and even rode side-by-side in a golf buggy.
“I’m the Mullet Cup winner,” Ambrose proudly told the Premier.
“You were in the paper today – I love it,” Mr Malinauskas replied.
Ambrose then faced his first media scrum completing interviews with all the major television channels.
“He’s had such a good day,” Mrs Skrypek said.
“He loved being involved at the golf and he made a couple of little friends.
“He’s just got this huge smile about him and we’ve been having phone calls and messages all day,” she said.
“The whole experience has been so great.”
