A six-hour siege in one of Adelaide’s most affluent suburbs ended with a man being tasered and arrested.

Police were called to a house in Upper Sturt after a man reported that another man known to him had broken into his house, threatened him and damaged electronics before fleeing the scene.

No one was injured in the confrontation.

Following further investigation, police descended on a house in Elinor Tce at Glen Osmond about 2pm.

When officers approached the door, the man refused to come outside and locked the doors.

Amid fears the man had weapons, heavily armed STAR-Group officers and negotiators were called-in to help end the siege.

Police vans and detectives set up on Bagot St with negotiators trying to peacefully end the stand-off.

The man was arrested after 8pm when STAR Group officers gained entry to the house through the garage, tasered the 47-year-old Glen Osmond man and arrested him.

He was charged with threats to kill or endanger life, serious criminal trespass, assault and property damage.

The man was refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

One resident of a street where police set up cordons, was worried by the situation.

“It’s not good,” he said.

“But it’s normal these days, not for here but it does happen.”

Another resident of a nearby street, Li Sun, 53, said he became concerned when he saw police cars.

“I didn’t know what was happening, Mr Sun said.

“If they’ve got weapons it’s not safe for us.”

One homeowner said the situation was “scary in a (otherwise) quiet neighbourhood”.

A man who lives opposite was unable to visit his wife who was stuck inside the house during the siege.

“My wife was in there by herself,” he said.

“I told her to keep away from the windows and keep down.

“I was on my way home from the dentist when it happened.”

The neighbour said the man who had been arrested lived at the property for six to 12 months.

Before the siege, he said he received a call from detectives who said “if I see him to call triple-0”.

Another neighbour said before the siege he “saw a guy running along Pridham St and a police car came flying up”.

The long term resident said he had noticed “a lot of drug and bikie stuff moving in” the neighbourhood.

It is understood there were no hostages.
