Plans for the Adelaide Crows’ new headquarters at Thebarton have been revised after West Torrens locals voiced their concerns over a controversial second oval.
The club presented the revised plans, which included confidential images of the new facilities, at a Master Plan Advisory Group meeting on Monday night.
After community outcry over a second oval being placed on Kings Park Reserve, the club’s new plans show the field has been moved 30m east, providing about 5500 sqm of space for locals to use at the park.
Crows chief executive Tim Silvers said plans had been revised on the back of community feedback.
“This is part of a process that’s been ongoing for the last two months,” he told ABC Radio Adelaide.
“We’ve been consulting with the community for a number of months.
“We want to be a good neighbour and we’ve made some concessions with our secondary oval further east.”
The western boundary of the club’s leased area was also moved to follow the shape of the oval.
Mr Silvers said the second oval, which would take up most of Kings Park Reserve, was in line with what most AFL clubs had.
“For us to be a destination club of the future, we sincerely believe that we need two training spaces,” he said.
More consultation with the Master Plan Advisory Group was expected in the coming weeks.
“We’re keen to get more feedback from the community and deliver something that’s a win-win for all parties,” Mr Silvers said.
West Torrens locals called for the images shown during Monday’s presentation to be made public after they were told they could not take photographs.
The club released an image detailing the changes to the oval’s location on Tuesday.
“Yes it was presented in a public meeting but we also thought it was best for the community to be able to access the website to see what movement’s been made,” Mr Silvers said.
The club’s revised plan also includes extra car parks on top of the 500 temporary spaces already slated for the facility.
Mr Silvers said community feedback had not showed a high demand for public access to the ovals.
Locals had previously voiced their outrage over the $85m development’s impacts on the Kings Park Reserve master plan.
“We’re committed to work with the council to deliver on as many aspects of the 2018 Kings Reserve master plan as possible,” Mr Silvers said.
