Port Lincoln woman allegedly tortures cat and throws it into the water

A woman has been filmed allegedly torturing a kitten at Port Lincoln on Tuesday night, before taking the dead animal by the tail and throwing it into the water.

In the footage, shocked onlookers watch as a woman holds a dead cat by the tail on a footpath near the town’s wharf. Police said they were aware of the matter and attended a Port Lincoln address to speak with a 21-year-old woman.

She was taken to hospital for an assessment.

Police were working with the RSPCA about any offences that may have occurred and investigations were continuing.

An RSPCA spokeswoman said the organisation had been notified of the incident.

“RSPCA SA received a report [on Wednesday] morning about an incident alleged to have occurred in Port Lincoln involving a cat and a rabbit, both deceased,” she said.

“No further comment will be made while investigations are ongoing.”
