Construction is complete at Adelaide’s newest hospital with the builders celebrating practical completion of the six storey building
Eastwood Private Hospital on Greenhill Rd next to Cancer Council SA has a six-theatre perioperative floor, a 51-bed ward, medical imaging and pathology services.
Planning documents lodged in 2022 showed the $90m private hospital intends to admit more than 7000 patients a year.
Builder BESIX Watpac said the project had been “a technically complex and highly co-ordinated build” but was delivered safely, on time, on budget and in full compliance with rigorous healthcare standards.
BESIX Watpac general manager for South Australia and Victoria, Al Crosby said the project was delivered in collaboration with Barwon Investment Partners and Fortius Hospitals.
“Eastwood Private Hospital is a standout project that reflects the strength of collaboration between all parties – as well as the depth of engagement with our well-connected subcontractor networks, with 87 per cent sourced locally, over 1600 jobs supported, and 360,000 construction hours delivered,” Mr Crosby said.
“We’re also proud to support our local community by donating $5000 to our neighbour throughout the construction phase – Cancer Council SA – through the BESIX Watpac Community Fund. This contribution helps advance their vital work across the region.”
Tom Patrick, head of Healthcare Property at Barwon Investment Partners, saidcompletion of construction at the hospital marks a pivotal step in strengthening healthcare capacity for the region.
“We’re proud to see Eastwood Private Hospital move from vision to reality,” Mr Patrick said.
“This facility will help alleviate pressure on existing services by expanding access to surgical care, and its design support a modern, patient-centred model of care.”
Jonathan Edelstein, chief executive of Fortius Hospitals, said: “This was a great opportunity to partner with a local builder, and the result is a high-quality hospital that meets every requirement for the latest healthcare.”
The hospital is expected to welcome its first patients later this year.
The public sector this week saw 26 new beds open at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after being fast tracked amid a health crisis this month of chronic ramping and gridlocked emergency departments.
Premier Peter Malinauskas said: “Over the next six months we’ll be adding an extra 180 hospital beds to the system.”
At 4pm on Wednesday ED clinicians were treating 383 patients despite the combined metropolitan ED system having official capacity for 333.
