Empathy and a passion for social justice issues has enticed one resident to start a social housing and sustainable movement.

Toowoomba’s Ellisa Parker is facilitating the Housing is a Human Right Forum on Monday.

With the intention of creating a safe space Ms Parker said the event would discuss the potential of introducing a tiny house village in Toowoomba to assist with the social housing crisis.

“The forum basically explores the concept of using tiny homes as emergency and permanent housing for people experiencing or coming out of homelessness,” Ms Parker said.

“It will address how we can address many issues through adequate housing, collaboration and co-operation.”

Ms Parker said the forum was open to stakeholders to attend to voice concerns or share ideas as well as anyone who has been directly impacted by homelessness.

During the forum attendees will hear from guest speakers from Community Supported Shelters and State Members.

A Q&A session will also follow the presentations.

“Community Supported Shelters is an organisation that has been running for many years in America and they have successfully established the tiny houses movement for many demographics,” Ms Parker said.

“We’re going to hear from a representative about all the options that have worked for them … with care and attention I believe we can design this to suit us here in Toowoomba too.”

The Housing is a Human Right Forum will run on Monday from 11am to 1pm at Toowoomba City Library on Herries St.
