Significant upgrades completed for Field of Light, installation extended until at least 2027

The Red Centre’s internationally acclaimed art installation, Field of Light, has undergone a significant refurbishment and been extended until at least April 2027, Ayers Rock Resort announced.

Designed by British-Australian artist Bruce Munro to symbolise the desert blooming after rain, the refurbishment replaced the luminous and fibre optics that made up the installation.

It features 50,000 solar-powered spindles of light covering more than seven football fields, which change colour through a spectrum of ochre, deep violet, blue and white.

The artwork is made up of 300,000 component parts and covers an area of over 49,000 sqm.

More than 380km of optical fibre is used in the installation – meaning if it were to be laid out in a straight line it would stretch further than the distance from Darwin to Katherine.

Ayers Rock Resort said the revamp would ensure the award-winning artwork – which has been visited by more than 730,000 people since its 2016 launch – remained a drawcard for regional tourism.

Mr Munro said he was pleased at the result.

“Creating the Field of Light at Uluru was a dream come true and it’s a personal joy to see that it still shines bright in the landscape that inspired it”, Mr Munro said.

Field of Light offerings include general admission from $48/adult, $35/child; star pass, includes canapes and drinks, from $118/adult, $75/child.

A night at Field of Light, includes canapes, three-course buffet, drinks, star talk and didgeridoo performance.

$335 /adult, $168 /child (for travel between April 1, 2024 – Mar 31, 2025).
