Sights of Toowoomba feature in new children's book

LIKE many young Toowoomba residents, Megan Carige could barely wait to move to the big smoke once she finished school.

LIKE many young Toowoomba residents, Megan Carige could barely wait to move to the big smoke once she finished school.

But like many people who move to the city as youngsters, she later had two children and found herself missing the big country-town lifestyle coupled with city convenience that Toowoomba offered.

The full-on lifestyle of working as a human resources manager for an international shipping company was fun for a while, but once she had kids she realised the high-flying lifestyle meant she didn't have the time she would have liked to spend with her boys Finn and Henry.

It wasn't long after her move back to Toowoomba that she remembered all the wonderful things she used to do as a child with her own parents and grandparents.

She decided to write a story book for the two boys detailing their wonderful adventures going to places like Queens Park, Laurel Bank, Picnic Point, the Empire Theatre and the Darling Downs Zoo.

"Toowoomba is just a great place and great for kids," Ms Carige said.

"The book is full of the things my grandparents took me to like Lake Annand to feed the ducks and Picnic Point.

"It just grew from there."

Her cousin was a published author and fell in love with the sweet little story book.

It wasn't long before Ms Carige was put in touch with a publisher and editor to look at turning it into a proper book.

The result was an adorable little picture book that Ms Carige said tourism operators had already asked her about as a way of getting visiting children interested in the sights of Toowoomba.
