WHY did the sheep cross the road was the question on a number of motorists' minds this morning.
Two sheep were spotted walking down a pedestrian footpath alongside the New England Highway at Mount Kynoch today, just before 8am.
They were then seen crossing the lanes heading into Toowoomba before munching on some of the very green grass in the highway's centre strip.
Witnesses said cars had to swerve and drastically slow down to avoid the sheep.
A Queensland Police spokesman confirmed police had received numerous calls about the sheep, but had passed the concerns on to the Toowoomba Regional Council.
It is believed the same two sheep have been spotted at the same location several times in the past, but have disappeared before authorities could capture them.
It is believed the sheep now live wild somewhere along the escarpment.
Little Bo Peep could not be reached for comment.
