I'VE spent a number of winters in chilly parts of our state, but that still didn't prepare me for Toowoomba.
That includes a -4 degree morning in Dalby, which was at the time a difficult experience.
But the wind that cuts through you here - that's a different story.
While it would be easy to stay inside curled up next to the fireplace, we should all instead get into the spirit.
Today marks the opening of the ice skating rink, and it couldn't be a more fitting week for it.
My ice skating skills are, to put it politely as I possibly can, dubious at best.
So while I probably haven't popped on skates since I was in my teens, I'll at some point make an effort to maintain my balance on the ice.
We've got to get behind fun activities like this, that embrace the weather and give us a reason to get outdoors.
Clearly it isn't just me who will (eventually) be joining the queue.
Councillor Geoff McDonald said ticket sales had passed Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth.
It's going to be brilliant to see thousands of people rug up to hit the ice in the coming months.
