It was a big opening weekend of local footy and netball across the Geelong and Bellarine.
Geelong great Steve Johnson coached his first game for Newtown & Chilwell, Geelong Amateur upset back-to-back premiers Torquay on the Tigers’ home turf, while East Geelong notched a win over Bannockburn.
In the netball, the Geelong league grand final rematch between Newtown & Chilwell and St Joseph’s certainly delivered, with the Eagles taking out a nailbiter — just like last year’s decider.
