Christmas may be a few months away, but business is booming for a new store that is bringing the festive season a little earlier this year.

Julie Dowd has run store Tanglewood Christmas Treasures from the small town of Tenterfield for more than three decades.

But with the intention to downsize and move closer to family, Ms Dowd alongside her husband Michael Fox, have moved their home-based business to Cabarlah, which officially opened on Saturday.

“It's not just a Christmas shop, it’s a Christmas experience … everyone who comes into the shop is happy and it’s absolutely amazing to see the faces of children when they see all the decorations,” Ms Dowd said.

“The response has been fantastic – our neighbours have been terrific and the general public have been so lovely.”

With more than 5000 decorations, the couple sell a variety of handmade or sourced items including wreaths, trees and miniature villages.

Building her collection over the years, Ms Dowd proudly decorates 35 trees in her house every year.

“I can’t give Julie enough credit for this … it’s her imagination that has created this shop,” Mr Fox said.

And while you would think the pair’s busiest time of year is just one of 12 months, they said they were expecting it to be busy all year round, after their opening weekend saw huge numbers come through the doors and many customers travelling from out of town.

But it’s not just the locals fawning over the displays, with orders being sent across the globe to Italy, The Netherlands, America and New Zealand.

The store is at 3 Kennedy St.
