THICK layers of tar have built up on tyres that traverse roadworks between Jondaryan and Dalby on the Warrego Hwy.

Several readers have contacted The Chronicle about the state of the road in the past few days.

One reader said an inch-thick coating of tar covered his car's tyres after driving on the road.

"(My wife) thought the car in front of her had shredded a tyre - and that she had also," he wrote.

"This was the cause of poor steering and the lack of control felt while driving along this particular strip of new road.

"Many cars had pulled up on the side of the road to try and remove the tar and rocks, with little success."
