Police suspect Keyhill or the 14-year-old critically injured boy was the driver at the time of the crash.

The teenager was flown to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane following the crash, where he passed away on Tuesday.

The news came just hours after another 14-year-old boy was charged with a number of offences relating to the crash, including the unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The boys were among four youths aged 13-14 hurt when a stolen Holden Commodore sedan rolled near Oakey about 8.30am on Monday.

Police suspect one of the critically injured boys was the driver at the time of the crash.

A leading Queensland detective issued a plea to youth offenders to consider the consequences of their actions in light of the crash.

Detective Acting Superintendent Garry Watts said the boys were in the sedan that was stolen from a Kingsthorpe address late Sunday night.

They were heading west when they veered to the left, went over an embankment and rolled the vehicle several times near Henningsen Rd.

The regional city has suffered hundreds of car thefts in the past two years, often with juvenile offenders as the culprits and residents commenting that the problem is out of control.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said two of the boys, aged 13 and 14, suffered critical head injuries and were flown by separate LifeFlight choppers to the Brisbane Children’s Hospital.

“We are still piecing together the exact position those people were in but we are led to believe the driver may be one of the children taken to the Brisbane Children’s Hospital,” A/Supt Watts said.

“Incidents like this are very traumatic, not only for the parents of the children but also for members of the public.

“We have four people that were involved in the crash, two quite severely injured

“We strongly urge children and anyone behaving like this to really think about what they are doing, because tragedy is right around the corner.

“The potential for death or serious injuries is very much real.”

A third boy, 14, suffered serious neck, back, shoulder and chest injuries.

They were transported by road to the Toowoomba Hospital.

The fourth, a boy, 14, was detained at the scene by police and was transported under guard to the Toowoomba Hospital with minor injuries.

Police slowed traffic along the road for several hours while Forensic Crash Unit investigators started probing the scene.

The sedan’s owner Souljah Kahukura-Campbell said he has now lost his only vehicle and will struggle to get to and from work.

“It was taken between 11-11.20pm on Sunday at Kingsthorpe,” he said.

“I’m pretty sure I left it unlocked.”

Along with the car, it appears Mr Kahukura-Campbell also lost a set of tools he needed for his trade.

“It’s really put me out,” he said.

Mr Kahukura-Campbell said he didn’t have a lot of sympathy for the teens who left his car a wreck on the side of the Warrego Highway.

“If you are going to be dumb you are going to pay the consequences,” he said.

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward as they piece together the hours after it was stolen and before the crash.

“We are seeking members of the public assistance if they saw a vehicle fitting that description operating within the Toowoomba, Oakey, or Kingsthorpe areas,” A/Supt Watts said.

“At the moment, what the vehicle did from when it was stolen to when it was involved with the crash will form part of our investigation.”

It is understood all four boys are from the Toowoomba area and none were on bail at the time of the crash.

Anyone with information about the crash, including dashcam footage of a suspicious silver sedan in the Toowoomba area in the hours before the crash, should phone Policelink on 131 444.
