FIVE of the Toowoomba region's most notorious and dangerous intersections will be upgraded using almost $5 million in Federal Government funds.

The latest round of Black Spot Program funding will address:

  • Intersection of Kingsthorpe-Haden Rd and Yalungur-Lilyvale Rd at Yalangur: $1.15m to realign one leg of the existing intersection to form a staggered 'T' intersection. Toowoomba Regional Council will also contribute $250,000 to this $1.4 million project;
  • Intersection of Hogg St and Tor St at Toowoomba: $1.05m to install traffic signals. Toowoomba Regional Council will also contribute $250,000 to this $1.3 million project.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester and Federal Member for Groom Ian Macfarlane today announced the funding.

Mr Chester said the projects were recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts and would be delivered during the course of 2016-17.

Mr Macfarlane said the Darling Downs community will benefit from a safer local road network through the improvement of Black Spot locations recommended by the Consultative Panel.

"Residents will recognise the history and notoriety of each of these locations, including through their own near misses and seeing emergency services at the site first-hand," he said.
