Local produce and artisan goods will be front and centre as Warwick prepares its very own farmers market expansion.
Debuting in the Rose City on May 6, the grand opening of the farmers market is ready to go following final council approval.
Located at Queens Park, the weekly market has put the call out to boost their stall capacity of more than 40 stalls and will attract thousands to enjoy local produce.
Everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to second-hand goods and even kombucha could be ready for locals who visit.
With an emphasis on Warwick produce for Warwick residents, reducing food miles and encouraging locals to shop locally, the market will be a hub for Rose Garden citizens to enjoy high-quality products from local sources.
Warwick Farmers Market’s Lisa Hansford said they were extremely excited for the ‘relaunch’ grand opening, with the expansion of stalls something they’ve been keen to see for a while.
“Since starting eight months ago we’re really keen to put the call out there, and bring even more stalls with high-quality fresh produce for all to enjoy,” Ms Hansford said.
“We’ve got a large range of fresh meat, and produce picked straight out of the ground the day before. We talk to the local farmers and you wouldn’t believe some of the things in the soil and chemicals used in store-bought products.
“We’ve noticed a big push in regenerative farming or biodynamic farming, and most of the veggies we’ve got at the moment are all chemical free. A lot of people are becoming much more aware of what they eat.”
“If you spend $50 at a local business, it’s far more likely that that $50 will stay in your community rather than a supermarket CEOs pocket, and we’re all super passionate about supporting local businesses and keeping the money they generate in our area.”
As well as the market stalls, patrons can expect free cupcakes and a sausage sizzle for the grand opening, as well as a jumping castle, face painting and entertainment for the kids.
Warwick Farmers Market grand opening kicks off weekly from Saturday, May 6, at Queens Park (Alice St entrance) from 7am to 12pm.
