Yeppoon police officers investigating a brazen bag snatch from the back of a woman’s shopping trolley at Yeppoon Central yesterday afternoon have accessed CCTV footage of the incident.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said the offence happened in the centre carpark about 2pm as a woman was about to pack groceries into her car.
“A silver Commodore drove past, someone jumped out of the car, grabbed the bag and hopped back in the car driving away,” he said.
“Police have obtained CCTV and are going through the footage.”
The victim of the offence posted on Facebook her appreciation to the people that came to her aid.
“A thankyou to the many very kind people who helped me today after my handbag was stolen from me in the undercover car park at Yeppoon Central, I cannot thank you enough,” she wrote.
“Your kindness will not be forgotten. I believe thieves will gain nothing from the theft but for me the loss of precious images on my phone is immeasurable.”
A witness to the crime advised Yeppoon shoppers to be on alert.
“I just wanted to warn people, today as I got out of my car at Woolies I witnessed a lady have her bag snatched from her trolley while walking back to her car,” she said.
“ A car pulled up beside her, a guy jumped out grabbed her bag and took off. She put up a good fight but he was just too quick.”
“It was scary, and we did help her and so did another young lady and a gentleman by the name Tim. Please be careful. She was literally pushing her trolley to her car.”
Anyone with information, photos or footage related to the incident is urged to contact Yeppoon Police or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
