A man in his 20s has suffered “life-threatening” burns to his chest following a backyard fire accident in Central Queensland.

Paramedics transported the male patient from a property at Wandal to Rockhampton Hospital about 11.01pm Friday and later flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital on Saturday.

A Queensland Police spokesman said officers were called to the backyard fire on Barry St and determined it was “accidental”.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said one crew attended and by the time they’d arrived the other occupants of the home had extinguished the fire and crews mostly dealt with smoke in the house.

As of 10am Saturday, the man was in a serious condition.

It was the second fire call out in Central Queensland overnight after a blaze broke out on Railway St, Blackwater about 9.58pm.

No patients were reported in the that fire.
