A Whitsundays local is about to make her debut in the Women’s State of Origin decider, hoping to get the series over the line for Queensland.

At only 19, Lily Peacock has been immersed in the world of NRL since the age of 12, although it meant driving down to Mackay every week from Airlie Beach to be able to train when she first started.

But hard work pays off, and Peacock has already seen some wins when she made the NRLW Cowboys team in Townsville at 17 or played for the Mackay Cutters at the BMD Premiership this year, which saw the team win.

After previously qualifying for the Origin under 19s side, her full debut means she’ll now tick off another milestone in her career — with an opportunity to match it with silverware.

The event will be held at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville on June 27.

Souths Logan Magpies player Destiny Brill stepped out due to a calf injury, allowing Peacock to step in and represent the Whitsundays in the famous competition.

This is the first time the Whitsundays will be properly represented at state level in the sport since player Paul Bowman, who retired in 2007.

Peacock’s alma mater, Proserpine State High School, made sure Peacock would feel supported by her region when she faces the interstate team, as they posted a sweet message for her on the school’s official Facebook page.

“Years of dedication to the game she loves will come to fruition as she steps out to make her mark for the QLD side,” the post said.

“We’re cheering you all the way, best of luck Lily!”
