PROSERPINE'S Main Street is well on the road to normality five months on from Cyclone Debbie.
The Proserpine Entertainment Centre has kicked off roof and interior repairs this week, as the insurance claim has now been approved.
The works are expected to be completed by the end of November, assuming no unexpected delays occur.
Division Three Councillor John Collins said he looked forward to seeing the centre get back on its feet.
"The Proserpine Entertainment Centre is important to the local community, and its restoration will help life get back to normal,” he said.
"Once the centre is repaired, regular features such as the movies and local concerts can be enjoyed again.”
Cafe 22
PROSERPINE coffee lovers won't have to wait too long to have their community hub back again.
Design plans are ready to go for the reincarnation of Cafe 22 on Main St.
Cafe 22 Owner Trish McNeill said reconstruction on the new-look cafe would begin once work was completed at the next door building.
"It will be a single storey building and we will have a walkway from front to the back for access for businesses out the back,” she said.
"We are hoping once we get started it will take about 3-4 months... we were hoping to get it all done before Christmas but the hold-up with other insurance companies make that impossible.”
Ms McNeill said it was clear that regular customers sorely missed the service.
"I don't know how many people walk up to me and keep asking when it will be back, it's more of a community spot and hub... people just love hanging out there and I hope it will be a good meeting place again,” she said.
TMR update
THE demolition of the Proserpine Main Street Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Building is subject to a "waiting game”.
TMR spokesperson Marlene Malone said once a demolition date was set, work would be completed during the early hours of the morning to ensure minimum traffic disruption in Proserpine's Main Street.
