A family has been charged after starting a pub fight in Collinsville.
Husband and wife Michael Aaron Altmann and Kristie Lee Altmann along with their 18-year-old son Bailey Michael Altmann faced Bowen Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with committing public nuisance after an altercation at the Pit Pony Tavern in October.
The court heard father Michael approached two other patrons at the pub with whom he had previous ‘bad blood’, and began yelling at them.
His wife Kristie then followed him, pushing one of the patrons while her teenage son Bailey was at her side.
The scene spilled onto the street outside of the venue.
Cleo Rewald from Richards Rewald Lawyers appeared as duty lawyer for the family and said the whole interaction ended “as quickly as it started” with alcohol not helping the situation.
Magistrate Anna Smith told Bailey his parents should know better.
“That was a really poor example, and for you to be involved,” she said.
Michael, Kristie, and Bailey all pleaded guilty to the charges on Tuesday.
Magistrate Smith noted Kristie’s “awful history of violence” and Michael’s longer and somewhat more serious history which included a previous suspended jail sentence for committing public nuisance.
She said she did not think a fine was enough for Michael or Kristie, despite the fact they played different roles in the altercation.
Magistrate Smith slapped both with a one month imprisonment which was wholly suspended with an operational period of eight months.
Convictions were recorded.
She said Bailey would be sentenced differently as he played a different role in the altercation.
“You didn’t instigate, you didn’t assault someone, but you did provide a presence with your mum,” said Magistrate Smith.
Bailey entered into a reconnaissance of $200 to be of good behaviour for a period of four months.
No conviction was recorded.
