A Whitsundays region woman has faced court after being charged over the death of Neale David Williams.

Mr Williams, 67, died after a ute collided with his Nissan X-Trail in a horror crash along Strathdickie Rd near Airlie Beach on Sunday, August 20.

It is alleged Lucy Jenkins, 43, had been driving that ute “when it crossed onto the wrong side of the road” and collided with Mr Williams’ vehicle about 6.10pm.

The X-Trail had significant damage to its front end while the ute’s canopy was upside down on the vehicle’s roof.

Following Forensic Crash Unit investigations, Ms Jenkins was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, a Queensland Police Service statement said.

Ms Jenkins received spinal injuries in the crash and was flown to Townsville Hospital for treatment but has since been released.

The fatality marked the eleventh death on Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region roads since January 16, and the fifth within a matter of weeks.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said Ms Jenkins faced Proserpine Magistrates court on August 23 and was released on bail.

The spokeswoman said Ms Jenkins is due to reappear before the court on November 27.

Mr Williams’s burial service is being held in Proserpine on September 11.
