Arrests made over alleged serious assault in Airlie Beach

Weapons, drugs seized after alleged eight-person hotel assault that left two people in hospital and six facing charges.

A man has been left with serious head injuries and another with injuries to his face and arm after an alleged altercation at a hotel in Airlie Beach.

Police will allege the altercation occurred around 6.40pm on May 10 at a hotel on Shute Harbour Road and involved eight people, ending with a 51-year-old man and 47-year-old man from Bowen transported to Proserpine Hospital.

Police searched a property on Conway Road in relation to the alleged altercation, and seized a large amount of cannabis as well as an unregistered weapon.

On 25 May police arrested a 48-year-old Conway man allegedly involved in the altercation and charged him with assaults occasioning bodily harm, common assault, producing dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, and unlawful possession of an air rifle.

Three other men were arrested in relation to the alleged altercation, a 26-year-old Cannonvale man and a 23-year-old Conway man were both charged with assaults occasioning bodily harm and common assault while a 49-year-old Conway man was charged with two counts of common assault.

Police also charged two Conway women aged 48 and 18 with common assault.

All six are set to appear in Proserpine Magistrates Court on July 7.

Investigations are ongoing.
