A Home Hill man has terrified a couple and their baby when he broke into their hotel room after a night of drinking.

Jack Connor Tracey, 21, broke through the backdoor of a Seaview Apartments’ room after 2:30am on November 27.

Police prosecutor Emma Myors told the court the family had woken up when Tracey broke in and an argument started, with the 21-year-old shouting at the family and pushing the dad in the chest.

The court heard police attended the scene after the family had contacted reception and had seen the mum and her child sitting on the side “frightened”.

They had also observed Tracey appeared to be drunk as his eyes were bloodshot.

Barrister David Cole instructed by MPO Legal told the court Tracey believed he was going into the room of a friend who was staying in the same hotel.

He told Magistrate Athol Kennedy Tracey had been able to enter the room from the back door.

He also confirmed to the court Tracey had been drinking that night.

Mr Kennedy told Tracey compensation to the family for his behaviour was of the essence.

“Do you imagine that situation for yourself, you’re in bed and suddenly someone’s in your living room and you’re telling them to get out,” Mr Kennedy said.

Tracey was ordered to pay a compensation sum of $750 and a good behaviour bond of $700 was imposed.

No conviction was recorded.
