Sparkle and Sip is heading to regional Queensland, combining drag and crafting for a night that will leave participants “sparkling inside and out”.
Drag queen Terry Daktyl will guide participants through the art of rhinestoning in a “fabulous” show for a night that he says might help people discover a new hobby.
Terry asked attendees to get creative and bring an item of their choice to bling up while he supplied all other materials.
“I’ve had some really out of the box items brought along, like lamps, a pill box, microphone and even a soft drink can, which they turned into a bedazzled vase,” he said.
He said the idea for the classes came about after travelling with paint and sip events and noticing how much wastage there was.
“Some people would just chuck them out after,” he said.
“But with Sparkle and Sip, the patrons care about what they’re doing and are so excited when they have finished their piece.”
Terry said he was eager to make sure drag events were not only for people who were willing to travel to big cities, which is why she chose locations like Bowen and Mackay.
“Small towns get left out of a lot of things,” he said.
“There’s so many drag lovers everywhere nowadays due to the popularity of RuPaul’s Drag Race, they love that they get the opportunity to experience drag in real life, and it’s awesome to connect with queer people in remote areas too.”
Terry said he loved how drag made people feel and thought it gave them an escape where they could let their hair down for some innocent fun.
“These events create a safe space for everyone regardless of who they are, they can feel free and just enjoy being creative and joyous without judgement.”
He said there would be more events to come with makeup workshops set for 2026 and a team up with two other queens for trivia events later this year where attendees will get to meet Terry’s drag king persona.
The Queensland tour kicks off in May with stops in 15 locations across the state including Bowen, Mackay, and Rockhampton.
