The Whitsunday Coast Airport will make history at the end of the month as new budget airline Bonza makes its first flight to and from the region.
Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Julia Hall announced the airline would jet into the region on Tuesday, January 31.
Ms Hall, along with the WCA’s chief operating officer of Aviation and Tourism Craig Turner, will take their seats on the inaugural flight from Sunshine Coast Airport at 8am and will land at the Whitsunday Coast Airport at roughly 9.35am.
Bonza will then continue to host flights between the two airports before adding routes to both Newcastle and Toowoomba in the coming months , with planes Shazza, Bazza and Sheila ready to go.
Aiming to integrate as much new technology to air travel as possible, flights through Bonza will soon be available to book exclusively on the Bonza app ‘Fly Bonza’.
It comes after the airline’s CEO Tim Jordan announced it had received its Air Operator Certificate on the January 5.
Not only will the airline exclusively offer flights on its app but is also scrapping the traditional food trolley and will require all passengers to again use the application to order food for their flight.
Bonza will aim to offer the region more affordable travel to premier locations on a budget.
