Whitsunday Regional Council confirms developer’s plans to open Bowen KFC

The community has been crying out for years for the Colonel to come to Bowen – now it looks like their fried-chicken dreams could be coming true. See the plans.

Whitsunday Times how to roadshow

In mouth-watering news for fried chicken lovers, Whitsunday Regional Council has confirmed receipt of plans for Bowen’s first KFC restaurant.

The proposed restaurant, incorporating drive-through, dine-in and takeaway options, would form part of a service station development recently approved for the corner of Leichhardt Street and Livingstone Street.

Proponents Brisbane Prestige Property Developments previously confirmed they were in talks with a major fast food chain to operate the restaurant component, while Metro Petroleum was already locked in for the fuel side of things.

It is understood KFC is yet to officially sign off on the deal with Brisbane Prestige Property Developments but a decision is expected later this month.

If the parties come to an agreement, the KFC restaurant would operate 10am to 10pm, seven days a week, while the service station would operate 24/7, with an expected opening date of early 2022.

The council mentioned the KFC outlet during its October 13 meeting at Collinsville, with development services director Neil McGaffin describing it as one of the “larger developments” under way.

Development assessment manager Doug Mackay confirmed the proponent submitted a minor change application featuring KFC branding in September.

KFC was contacted for comment.
