THE Airlie Beach Hotel is set to expand, taking up more prime real estate on the main drag.
Airlie Beach Hotel Operations Queensland lodged a development application with the Whitsunday Regional Council last week to extend into two adjoining buildings.
Plans show an expansion into the recently vacated Swim Swim Swim shop, which was relocated into the lagoon side of the Beachworx store.
The extension would also take over the next store over, pushing the Airlie Beach Hotel against Fish D'Vine.
The 204sq m extension would be licensed and operated in conjunction with The Pub with extra seating areas.
A 30.5sq m deck would also be built as part of the development, adjoining the new dining areas.
A bar will stretch along the side wall while TV screens and two TAB machines will be added.
Initial plans show the new area would seat about 130 people between tables and benches on the deck and inside the building.
The facade of the extension will be similar to The Pub with mosaic tile walls, hanging lights and wooden finishings.
The extension comes just weeks after a separate application from the Airlie Beach Hotel developers for a new bottle shop in Cannonvale.
An application was submitted to the council last month with the Mountain Valley Shopping Centre on Shute Harbour Rd near the Airlie Beach Vinnies earmarked.

The detached bottle shop will take up a 150sq m portion of the existing building with hopes it will "service and cater for the local residents in this area".
The council and relevant authorities will assess both applications before they are given the green light.
