Two dogs were praised for their bravery after leaping into action in the early hours of the morning, chasing off a would-be intruder from a Urangan home.
Chaos, an Amstaff x Kelpie x Sharpei, and Huxley, a French bulldog, well and truly earned their keep when they chased off a man using a torch to inspect a boat in their front yard.
Footage uploaded by renter Amy Havik, 42, showed the man moving around the back of the boat before making a beeline for the gate.
Within seconds, Chaos and Huxley gave chase. The man doubled back and threw his shoe at the dogs in an attempt to stop them before realising he needed to retrieve it.
The footage ends with Ms Havik running out the front door, yelling “f — k off” at the man, who laughed in response.
The incident happened last week and watching the footage back, Ms Havik said she couldn’t help but laugh at how well the dogs defended her property.
“I just happened to wake up and hear them bark,” she said.
“And here he was running away and throwing his shoe at the dogs. He came back for the shoe and kept throwing it.”
Ms Havik said she felt lucky the dogs happened to be in the front yard at the time and that their protective instincts kicked in.
“They’re not vicious dogs but they have the capability to scare people away,” she said.
Since Ms Havik uploaded the footage to TikTok on Monday, it has been viewed more than 150,000 times.
Viewers shared stories of their own canine heroes saving the day and deterring intruders.
“This is why I have a Corso. He’s not scared of anything and that bloke would be missing half an arm before he even knew what was going on,” one commenter wrote.
“Someone tried jumping over our back fence, met my very protective Shepherd. Police caught up with him. I think he preferred the police,” another wrote.
“My German Shepherds would have said lunchtime, end of story,” a third added.
As a reward for their heroic efforts, Ms Havik said Chaos and Huxley were treated to a steak dinner that night.
